Ask any parent of a human child if they have a first aid kit and you’ll hear a yes, but did you know pet parents have one for their furbabies? Like most of us, you probably didn’t have a first aid kit for your pets ready, but it’s not too late to be prepared! Here’s what you’ll need in yours.
Your Kit Should Contain
- Absorbent gauze pads
- Paper tape
- Cotton balls or swabs
- Fresh 3 percent hydrogen peroxide to induce vomiting, but always check with your veterinarian before giving to your pet
- Ice pack
- Disposable gloves
- Scissors with blunt end
- Tweezers
- Antibiotic ointment
- Alcohol wipes
- Saline eye solution
The most important item in your first aid kit is the name, phone number and address of your veterinarian. Make sure to check your pack every few months to make sure nothing has expired or needs to be replaced. And be sure to keep your kit out of the reach of children.
