Does your pet struggle with grooming due to anxiety, fear, or sensitivity? Sedated grooming may be the safest and most comfortable solution. We offer sedated grooming in Florence, KY for pets who cannot tolerate traditional grooming methods. Our goal is to reduce stress and ensure your pet receives the care they need in a controlled, supportive environment.

When Sedated Grooming Is Needed

Sedated grooming is not necessary for most pets, but it can be the best option in certain situations. It may be recommended if your pet:

  • Becomes highly anxious during grooming
  • Has shown aggression or fear-based behavior
  • Has severe matting that cannot be safely removed while awake
  • Has medical or physical sensitivities
  • Has had unsuccessful grooming experiences in the past

Our team will help determine if this approach is appropriate for your pet.

Pets We Commonly See:

At PetWow in Florence, we provide sedated grooming for both dogs and cats. This service is especially helpful for:

  • ✅Cats that do not tolerate brushing or bathing
  • ✅Dogs or Cats with extreme anxiety or reactivity
  • ✅Older pets with sensitivity or discomfort
  • ✅Pets with heavily matted coats

Every pet is evaluated individually to ensure the safest approach.

How Sedated Grooming Works:

Sedated grooming is performed in a controlled setting where your pet’s safety is the top priority. The process typically includes:

  • Pre-evaluation of your pet’s needs
  • Administration of appropriate sedation.
  • Careful monitoring throughout the grooming process
  • Completion of grooming while your pet is calm and comfortable

Our team ensures that each step is handled with care and attention.

What’s Included in Sedated Grooming

Once your pet is safely sedated, grooming can be completed more comfortably and efficiently. Services may include:

  • ✅Bath
  • ✅Brush
  • ✅Blow dry
  • ✅Nail trim
  • ✅Anal gland expression
  • ✅Haircut (if needed)

This allows us to fully address your pet’s grooming needs without causing stress. Our friendly customer care team will happily walk you through what your pet may need in terms of grooming, and let you decide from there.

Safety & Monitoring

Your pet’s safety is our top priority during sedated grooming. This service is carefully monitored by our PetWow veterinary team to ensure proper sedation levels and overall well-being throughout the process.

We take every precaution to provide a safe, controlled environment so your pet can receive the care they need comfortably.

Which Sedation Method is Best for Your Pet?

Not every pet requires sedation, and it is only recommended when necessary. If your pet becomes overly stressed, fearful, or difficult to groom safely, sedation may be the best option to prevent injury and reduce anxiety. Sedation can take one of two forms: orally administered sedation – what we like to call our “chill protocol”, which keeps your pet fully cognizant, but takes off the anxious edge. Alternatively, if oral sedatives are not enough to help your pet stay calm, we may recommend anesthesitic sedation – which means they go under anesthesia to complete the groom.

If you’re unsure, we’re happy to discuss your pet’s behavior and grooming history to help determine the best approach.

NOTE: if your pet is over 10 years old, which is considered geriatric, we require a consult with one of our Veterinarians to determine if grooming is safe for your pet.

A Less Stressful Experience

For pets who struggle with grooming, sedation can transform the experience. Instead of fear or resistance, your pet remains calm, allowing grooming to be completed efficiently and safely.

Many pet owners find that sedated grooming is the only way to properly maintain their pet’s coat and hygiene without causing distress. Because we have both licensed veterinarians and professionally trained pet groomers on our team, we are able to provide this experience – pairing grooming expertise and medical state-of-the-art monitoring to make sure your pet has the best experience possible.
