For over five decades, PetWow has been helping pet owners in Highland Heights, KY protect their pets through preventative care. Conveniently located near Northern Kentucky University, our clinic has built a long-standing reputation for thoughtful, practical veterinary care.

Vaccinations are a key part of that approach. Rather than using a one-size-fits-all schedule, we tailor vaccine recommendations to your pet’s individual lifestyle, ensuring they are protected without receiving unnecessary treatments.

WHAT ARE PET VACCINATIONS?

Vaccines help prepare your pet’s immune system to recognize and fight off harmful diseases before they become serious. By introducing a safe, controlled version of a virus or bacteria, your pet develops protection without becoming ill.

Preventative care like vaccinations plays a major role in helping pets live longer, healthier lives—something we’ve prioritized at PetWow for over 50 years.

WHY YOUR PET NEEDS VACCINATIONS

Vaccinations are recommended for:

Puppies and kittens starting their initial vaccine series
• Adult pets needing boosters
• Pets that visit groomers, boarding, daycare, or dog parks.
• Pets exposed to outdoor environments

Even pets that stay primarily indoors benefit from protection against certain airborne and environmental diseases.

CORE VS LIFESTYLE VACCINES

At PetWow in Highland Heights, we separate vaccines into two categories: core vaccines and lifestyle vaccines.

🐶 Dog Vaccines

Core Vaccines (recommended for all dogs):

• Rabies vaccine (required by law)
• Distemper/Parvo vaccine

Lifestyle Vaccines (based on risk):

• Bordetella (kennel cough)
• Leptospirosis (Lepto)
• Lyme disease
• Canine influenza

🐱 Cat Vaccines

Core Vaccines (recommended for all cats):

• Rabies vaccine
• FVRCP (panleukopenia, herpesvirus-1, calicivirus)

Lifestyle Vaccines (based on risk):

• Feline Leukemia Virus (FeLV)

Our experienced veterinarians will help you determine exactly which vaccines make sense based on your pet’s daily environment and exposure risk.

WHAT TO EXPECT DURING YOUR VACCINATION VISIT

During your vaccination visit, you can expect:

  1. ✅A full physical exam before any vaccines are given
  2. ✅Review of your pet’s medical and vaccine history
  3. ✅Personalized vaccine recommendations
  4. ✅Administration of vaccines as needed
  5. ✅A plan for future boosters or follow-ups

We prioritize safety and clarity, so you understand every recommendation.

If you are already part of the PetWow family, you can schedule a “drop-off” appointment for lifestyle vaccines. If you know your pet is coming due for one of these lifestyle vaccines and we have an existing VCPR (Vet-Client-Patient-Relationship), we can simply run them to the back, update their lifestyle vaccines, and get them back to you without an examination being needed. However, core vaccines require a veterinary examination in order to be administered.

WHY CHOOSE PETWOW?

Pet owners in Highland Heights trust PetWow because we take a thoughtful, individualized approach to preventative care.

Since 1971, we’ve focused on doing what’s best for the pet in front of us—not following rigid protocols. That means recommending only the vaccines your pet truly needs, based on real risk, not assumptions.

We combine decades of experience with modern veterinary practices to provide care you can feel confident in.

Here’s What Pet-Parents are Saying:

My experience was such a positive one. Pet Wow took care of a stray cat that hangs around my work and I wanted to make sure she would be spayed and all current shots and vaccines were up to date.

You don’t realize how much better service is out there until you take a chance and make change. I was content with my regular veterinarian’s office but because of scheduling issues I decided to look into Pet Wow and I’m so happy that I chose them because it was a real big eye-opener on how much better service can actually be. I would highly recommend this place.. The vet tech that was giving my dog treats and petting him… it made him more comfortable and myself. She was down on the floor with me and it really meant a lot to me.
The actual vet was also very kind and had great guidance. She seemed like she really cared not only about my dog but my other pets at home.

We accidentally arrived 30 minutes early to our appointment and they were still able to check us in and get us seen within five minutes . All of staff from check in, tech, Vet, and check out were all very kind . They offered my four year old coloring pages while we our puppies were being seen. Our puppies each had two shots done and not a single whimper from either pup! They were very efficient, affordable, and didn’t try to oversell us on anything we didn’t need! They even gave the pups a cute toy at the end 🙂 I was recommended to PetWow by a friend and I’m so very glad we chose them for our fur babies! I will be telling others friends and family to go there as well!
